Good morning,
first of all I present my self: I'm a scholar in history of technology from History and Museum of the Science of Florence. One of our activity is the reproduction of historical experiment. Next year well be the 350° anniversary of the "Accademia del Cimento", the first scientific academy born in Florence in 1657. In that occasion we have to (re)built the famous "froggy clinical thermomer". It is an "infingardo thermometer" (less): A little hollow cylindrical body (25 mm diameter X 70 mm long) full of water almost to the top, with 4 glass hollow spheres inside (4-5 mm diameter). The sphere float in the water and with the increase of the temperature one by one (depend on the density) they falling down to the bottom. What I wonder to know is if exist some factory that produce hollow sphere in glass but also in other material with a density between 1 to 0,8 to use in the reproduction of the "ranocchietta". Andrea Look on the internet. I have seen them for sale, complete and working for less than $50.00. If you cannot find one I will try a local clock shop here (New York) that sells them. Stewart |
