hi i am a mechanical engineer doing a project in a port trust
we are having a problem with the wire ropes used for unloading ore from the barges using a grab(scissor type) the wire ropes fray every 8 shifts this is mainly due to friction wear when the ropes rub against each other. the vertical and horizontal ropes at the grab during normal operation. please give suggestions.

Could you be a little more descriptive? I think I see the vertical ropes but where are the horizontal? The ones with slack in them at the top? Try to elaborate a little more. |

at the grab the wire ropes come vertically down from the hoisting gear these ropes go around 2 pulleys to the opposite scissor ends so its the same rope which rubs against itself this description is a bit wierd copnsider it as opening and closing of a scissor using two ropes
