Energy balancing in recirculating gas flow Question

We are into manufacturing of gas compressors. For performance evaluation we run the compressor for atleast 3 days continuously with the gas recirculating ie the discharge is again fed to the suction after reducing the pressure by throttling. My question is where is all the work done on the gas going to in this case? Is it being taken away in the heat exchanger or is it contributing to the universal entropy during throttling which is an irreversible process? I know that the energy is being balanced some how. I just want to know how exactly it happens.

Hi,

As it's known in the refrigeration circuits we exert the work in the compressor meanwhile we gain the work in the expansion valve or the throtle.
