Metal Compatibility?

Is it possible to have A36 carbon steel in contact with stainless steel in an outdoor application?  The A36 steel will be painted.  If so, which type of stainless would be best?

Is the A36 mild steel a mechanical or decorative parts?

and suffer to what degree of outdoor corrosion and weathering?
