I have a rod that has 3.000"-12 threads, 4.000" long. The customer wants it torqued to 5500 ft/lbs. That is way excessive for 12 tpi. I was figuring around 1275. Help? |

That does seem a excessive. Have you actually tried applying that much torque on the bolt yet? I would suspect that the bolt would break. Not sure what the material is though. Try using the torque calculator on this website. If your material was 300 series stainless steel, then the recommended torque would be in the range of 1500 to 2000 lb-ft. Hope this helps. Good luck.
