Sir,

I am Aravindan Regupathi working as Design Engineer.I am Currently working for Waffle maker,Sandwichmaker like stuff. I want to know about the Cool touch Concepts used in Waffle maker.

1.What does Cool touch Means? Does it mean the Outer surface temp.  lying somewhere around

60'C.

2. I want to know if using glass Wool is not as per accepted standard if Glass Wool is kept close to heating medium.

3.Does anyother Polymer good enough to sustain the temp from Waffle Maker & used in COnsumer Food products

Thanking u

Aravind

What little searching I did seems to indicate that cool touch is mostly a buzz word that can mean several things. I agree the idea is to provide temp. stabilization. When I was younger I designed and built some foam cup molds. These molds had to be instantly hot enough to expand styrine beads and then instantly cool enough to cool the cup (product) to become firm and pass down the line and be tested and boxed. We did it with thin stainless steel molds and steam exchanged for chilled water in a seven second cycle.

I have a challenge:
Take a common orange, peal it in such a way that one half of the pealing stays in a half sphere shape. Take this half sphere and cover a piece of paper about four inches square, rolled into a loose ball. Rewording: ... the orange peal covers the paper ball. Now take a blow torch, cutting torch, mapp gas torch (the hottest torch you can find) and toast the devil out of that orange peal for a minute or so. (you need to be on a thick metal surface.) Don't cheat yourself and heat the metal surface, just the orange peal. Turn off the torch and check the paper ball, it will be unaffected! Figure out how to do that with a synthetic material and you will be the new world hero and quite rich! ... Try more heat at a longer time, you will be amazed. ... Please be very careful!!! You will find the orange peal very hard to burn, although if you squeeze it, it will squirt a flammable liquid.

I'm not familiar with your industry, however, the term cool touch " does seem to imply that the touchable surfaces are not hot or warm to touch.  Thermal design and mangement of consumer products clearly is important.  Any place that a physical contact occurs between part with the assembly some consideration must made to ensure that the thermal interface is as the design intends.  Thermal insulators, high thermal contact platings and dead space insulation techiques are the first that come to my mind when I think of thermal isolation.
