All,'

I am currently working on a project to measure TIR on a washing machine transmission, I am looking at using a non-contact laser but am not it will give the resolution needed (my total tolerance is .030).

Also any advice or input on controlling TIR would be usefull, currently we use a cast aluminum upper and lower housing with tubes inserted into cast bores, the housing are then screwed together, again, any info on TIR would be appreciated.

Thanks

Machining the bores and or shafts is very important. Alignment of the housing is very important.

Maintaining alignment is very important. The possible solutions are vast!

I am measuring the TIR on the shafts, I am inserting tubes into the upper and lower housing (press fit) inside the tube have powder metal bushings which the input and output shafts are placed in. The entire unit is then placed in a set of bench centers and spun with the TIR being measured in one place on the tube. hope this helps.
