Hi and welcome to the forum. There is pretty good o-ring data on this site. But I thank that I would like to see you go to www.parker.com (o-ring mfr). Your groove will be rectangular in shape and your o-ring is round. The round o-ring simply protrudes from the top of the groove. When you put your plate to seal...it simply compresses the o-ring against your plate and the groove. The important part is to follow the surface finish requirement on the groove and on your mating plate. We'll walk you thru it if you have anymore questions...but it's important for safety reasons to understand the sealing requirements... Modified by Marky at Thu, Apr 16, 2009, 07:48:34 |

You want to get your hands on the Parker O-Ring Handbook. Its the best guide I have seen, and very thorough. Just got my new one. Its their publication number ORD 5700. |

Normally for pressure joints, the o-ring compression preferred is 15-25%.
you can calculate the o-ring groove depth as per your requirement of nominal compression of 20% and o-ring cross section diamater. your groove width should be decided based on the ratio of groove area to o-ring cross section area of 1.2-1.3. for 5mm cross section o-ring, the groove will be 6.7 x 4.0. |
