When bending tubing, is there a formula for figuring the wall thickness of the tubing AFTER bending on the outside of the bend radius? I know for a fact that the tubing stretches and thins through the outer wall during the bending process and I am wanting to know just how much it is affected by bend radius and degrees of bend. Any suggestions? FYI, the material I am interested in using is 1-1/2" x 0.134" wall DOM steel tubing.

Thanks,

Ron

DEAR SIR,

AS PER MY KNOLADGE IN PIPE / PIPE FITTINGS DUE TO ANY RESON WALL THK. SHOULD NOT BE LESS THAN 87.5% THAN THE SPECIFIED WALL THK.ie.TLO. ON SPECIFIED WALL THK. IS -12.5%.

Yes, I understand that. I was just wondering if it was possible to calculate how much the outer wall would thin if given the bend radius and the number of degrees the bend was made. We have decided to try some different combinations and check them with a sonic meter to determine exact wall thickness. Thanks for the reply.
