I am trying to air convey material at 1700lb/min and i want to determine the air volume (cfm) needed per lb of material. What i am really looking for is a reference chart. could anybody direct me to something like this or have any experience in this field. Thanks. |

Talk to any of the numerous companies in the pneumatic conveying equipment business, or look at their catalogs (Exair is one I know of). You said you want to know cfm. What you really want to know is fpm, ft per minute. The VELOCITY of the air is more important than the VOLUME of air. For most materials there is a certain minimum air velocity (also known as the "capture velocity") required to carry them reliably thru turns, etc. Combining that with the duct diameter gives you cfm. But without that velocity, nothing moves. I would highly recommend that you allow a professional to design your system, unless you want to go through endless reworks. |
