Stub ACME Thread Torque Calculation | |||

I have a steel threaded rod with a 2" ACME Stub (1.00 L Quad). I also have a steel nut threaded on this rod that is against a steel surface (fixed). If I load (compressive) the rod, how do I determine the amount of torque required to spin the nut on the rod? I assumed using the preload bolt equation to find torque, but in reverse since I presumably already have the load given. Thank you greatly for your input. |

See Acme threads in Machinery's Handbook. Basically, a screw is just an inclined plane wrapped around a cylinder, right? Screw pitch leads you to incline angle. Vector analysis gives you the simplest answer, but other factors are thread profile, friction, lubrication, etc. |
