I would like to have a commercially available contact switch that can be put under a 1/2-13 hex nut to sense if the nut has been removed.
I do not need to know torque or compression load, only if the nut has been tampered with.
I have found various load cells and pressure membranes but was hoping for a simple low cost (even electro-mechanical) solution.

Any suggestions?

Randy is right...there are other ways to secure the nut than an expensive sensor.

Investigate Tamper-Proof hardware. There are some that you can tighten and torque but break away when you try to loosen.

Good Luck

Do you need to know remotely?

If not there are indicators that are used in the aircraft industry to indicate if a bolt, nut, stud, pin, and so on have moved or been moved.

These (I forget the names) come in a bottle and are applied with a brush similar to fingernail polish. The one we used to use is a bright blue/green. It dries thick and breaks with any motion or tampering. It can not be faked. An aircraft fastener company should be able to provide it. It is used in the inspection department of machine parts companies and is often required by the aircraft engineer. I think it is hot fuel proof. ... sorry, but I can't pull any more out of my brain on this subject.

Thanks guys for your responses,
but I need a remote electrical signal.
I have the circuitry to send the signal, just need the switch to activate. This will be used in addition to a security nut with break away head. I want a signal to be sent if the security nut is damaged or tampered with.
I was hoping for something like a metal spring washer that the contacts would break when the force is removed.
Any more ideas?

Only other realistic idea I have is to use the old faithful safety wire method as used in the (again) aircraft industry... EXCEPT... put a #22 insulated wire through the holes. If the nut turns on the bolt or the bolt head turns the wire is severed.
