Dear friends,

I hope you all read this in the best of spirits and health.

I am Kamran Wasti from Lahore, Pakistan.

I am faced with a slight problem in this firm that I joined recently.

The drawing here says that the galvanising coating on the bolt should be MZn5-C

Apparently we are following JIS but I cannot verify what standard is this. I have been told that this coating has a slightly golden shade.

The firm got this part made by another firm which reinterpreted this as MFZn5-C and gave us a bol whose Zn coating is completely silvery. Now this supplier is China-based.

Can someone tell me what nomenclatures/standards are these and what do the symbols in both of these specify?

Thanking you.

Regards,

Kamran

Hi all,

In my opinion MFZn5-c is right.MFZn5-c specifies the type of surface treatment on your bolts. JIS standard for MFZn5-c coating is G 3010. G 3010 is used to specify the material SS or any free cutting steel and your bolts and nuts comes under this category.

Dhana,

Kamran - there is a widely used coating here in the US that applies a 0.2 mil (0.0002 in.) thick coating of zinc and then a yellow chromate coating over the zinc on mild steel parts. The result is a an iridescent yellow. I use it all the time on various machine components. It is also used a lot on electronic chassis and related parts where it is sometimes called Iridite a trademarked name.

Hope this helps.

Kamran,

I have looked thru all of my zinc coating/finishing standards and I cannot find anything on MZn5-C.

This could be a company created specification based on a industry standard. I would contact the supplier and ask them for clarity or a copy of the special standard.

If this turns out to be a country or industry standard, please let us know!!!
