Will bare mild steel that is in contact with zinc plated or hot dipped galvanized steel induce galvanic corrosion?
I manufacture steel doors and windows which are painted with an epoxy for rust protection. We use galvanized sheet metal for the waterproofing pans at the sill and thresholds. The steel doors and windows come in contact with the galvanized sheet metal for the life of the product. If a scratch in the paint exposes bare steel to the zinc, is there a possibility for galvanic corrosion? Thank you for any information you can provide.

I trust you would have found an answer to your question on corrossion after this length of time. If the surfaces of the MS and GI in the gap is moist, corrossion will set in. Epoxy coating will delay the corrossion for some time. Any pin holes in the coating will be where where corrossion will start. R.Gopal |
