I have T304 stainless steel brackets holding white oak slats on the exterior of a building on the East Coast. Not long after being installed a blue stain appeared where the two materials come into contact with one another. Any ideas what this is and how to prevent it? Would any other types of stainless be better? Any other types of wood be better or worse? Thanks |

I am not an expert in this field but I have heard "blue stain" on woods can sometimes be caused by "microscopic fungi", I guess most commonly associated with moist conditions, so this might be an area to look. I guess this behavior could also be some sort of plating or other function of the metal and perhaps a new class of wood preservatives that may be out there if this is by any chance treated wood (see information at https://www.toolbase(DOT)org/tertiaryT.asp?DocumentID=3974&CategoryID=1285)?
