Curved Beam Deflection Problem - Need Help! | |||

Doe's anyone know how to solve the attached curved beam deflection problem? I'm looking for the stepwise mathematical solution for it so that I can also solve slight variations of the problem. The curved beam (see picture) has a rectangular cross section 'b' X 'h', Young's modulus 'E', and the radius 'R' in the picture is the neutral plane radius. It's from Mechanics of Materials by Beer & Johnstone, first edition, chapter 10 on 'Energy Methods', problem 113. (This is not for school, I am working on a spread sheet application for quick spring clip design for my employer.) If anyone can respond, Thanks! Craig

Try working out the deflection using ansys, its easy to model beams in this package and step by step guides to finding the deflection can be found in books such as Finite Element Analysis: Theory and Application with ANSYS; Saeed

Correction.
The problem isn't exactly as the one I mentioned . For this case the y and x deflections utilizig the energy method are: y=PR^3(pi/4)/EI x=PR^3/2EI |
