Load capacity for storage rack

In such a simple storage rack made of general carbon steel (bolted or welded joint), what sort of formulae used to determine the maximum load capaity per shelf. Is there any reference can be used as a guideline. Thank you.

Suggest you find a copy of "manual of steel construction".
(AISC)
This is very good for ANY steel construction. Has all formusas necessay for your project. If you dont have access to a copy,
I suggest you try your local librey.
