Hi!
I'm a Spanish student of Electronic Engineering and now I'm doing my final project. It consists about sending SMS in certain conditions using GSM technology. I'm reading a book named "Artech House - Gsm Networks - Protocols, Terminology And Implementation", which is in english obviously (I've tried to find an spanish translation but its impossible). What I'm mainly interested in is about protocols, but I've done an overview and i've seen that there are many protocol, different for each layer. My english reading is not as quickly as i would like to, so I'll be glad if you could advise me about what I really need to read or not. Thanks! |

Hi Enrique, seems like you're heading in the right direction with that book. You are correct about different layers / protocols, and these are in accordance with the standard messaging models. I have no idea of what you are trying to implement, so it is impossible to guide you as to what specific areas of transport you need to research. If you just want to use GSM as the transport for SMS messages, why can you not just compose a text message using the appropriate "AT" command protocol and send it to the transport layer via serial port? Your GSM modem or 'phone should provide you with the details of the AT command set implementation - it should be in accordance with the GSM MOU. |

Thanks you a lot davamb!
It's very important for me to know if I'm in the right direction or not, so your opinion is very helpful. Well, I'm going to tell you what's my project consists in: I'm going to use a microcontroller and a temperature sensor for controlling the load's temperature of a refrigerator lorry (frozen food mainly). An sms will be sent when the trip temperature thresholds are exceeded or if someone request it (alarm and information sms). By now, I'm not going to try to control the temperature via sms. I'll be glad if you or someone else could help me if there is an specific protocol layer that I shoud have to study harder. Thanks Modified by Enrique at Mon, Nov 14, 2005, 06:41:32 |
