Does anyone has idea on how to define Shelf Life for Plastic, elastomer parts or thereof by means of adhesive? Is there any standard available in terms of guidelines to esatblish product shelf life guidelines? we are engaged in manufacturing plastic and elastomer parts. Based on product requirement and construction, we need to consider joining 2 parts together with adhesive. |

Hi ,
I don't understand ? You want to the shelve life of the adhesive or plastic parts ? Now , the easy part is the adhesive.. acc. do manufacture data . Regarding the plastic parts: 1-If you inject the parts ask the manufacturer of the raw material for this . 2- If you purchase the parts , ask the Injection shop for this including direction how to store the parts . Pay attention that if you are dealing with Nylon , you will need to store the parts in a very dry atmospher . Good Luck , AVIB |

Hi and welcome to the forum. You might want the assistance of an independent testing lab. While you're testing for shelf life you may want think about environmental testing...How Long Will It Last In It's Environment? |

we do have all the environmental test equipments in the company. I was asking how can we define the shelf life of the plastic and elastomer products? We do molding in-house for plastic and elastomer and buy raw material. We can ask raw material supplier but that would be the shelf life for the raw material not our molded product. After molding there is always change in chemical properties of the material. Adhesive is very straight forward, it can be asked from supplier. In fact i am looking for a kind of establishing a guidelines line to specify product shelf life that can be used internal document and to commuicate whenever it is asked by our customers. |

Hello again ,
After you send the product you cannot give any guide lines . Your Customer can use it as he likes in the field . This is why I do not recommend giving shelf life of a product you cannot controll . As for injected product that are stored at your place , you should ask the material manufacturer for this specifiing that you need the data for injected part . I have asked this from Bayer and Sabic and the information is available. Hope it helps , AVIB |

Thanks for your reply. Suppliers do not entertain this request and they said we are responsible for our raw material as it will become your product after molding and you have to specify at your own. However, it could be referenced from our raw material shelf life. Anyway i managed to find a way to do so. Accelrated Sgelf life testing is the way to test the part at elevated temperature for calculated time period which would simulate shelf lofe testing. Thanks to all. |
