I need a button-head (not pan) screw, with a socket-hex drive. Fully threaded, #8-32 size, and any length over 1/2 inch. I have searched and searched, but can't seem to find a mil-spec (or similar standard spec #) for this type of screw, and I can't believe there isn't one. If you want to see the screw I'm talking about, go to McMaster Carr and look up p/n 92949A194. I thought I got it with ASME B18.3, but can't seem to find anything but metric under that spec. I need #8-32. Thanks! -Kieran Edited out URLModified by Administrator at Mon, May 19, 2003, 17:31:06 |

We have had the same problem, I don't think there is such a thing. We created a source control document and had our own equivalent made. This will work if you need high volume and don't mind waiting a little for delivery If you need an ISO metric version try ISO 7380. You'll probably want to design out the requirement, or try a pan, flat head design alternative.
Good luck! |

Found it!!!! FYI for others: ASTM F835 and ASTM F879-02a both cover button head cap screws in standard (inch) sizes. Let's see... about 5 hours of my time researching that, at the company's senior engineer's rate, we just cost the customer quite a bit of cash for one screw! Makes you wonder why referencing standards is so important. -Kieran |

I'm going to get me copy in the morning, thanks for all the hard work. We already spent the time and money awhile back to resolve our button head challenge. Next time I'll know. Appears you beat our PM&P guys, kudos....
