Hello ,
I am a fabricator needing advice , I am trying to build ramps to load a vehicle weighing 2000 lbs on to a flat bed truck.
each of the two ramps will be built with three aluminum runners 12 feet long laterally connected with tread bars. Assuming the vehicle has an even weight dist. of 500 lbs. per tire and a 7 foot long wheel base . ramps flat not angles supported on both ends , for a total of 6 beams 12 feet long .I need to use aluminum for light weight. The material in question is 1"x2" aluminum rectangle tube with .120" wall thickness. Is this enough , and what would the deflection be. Thanks for your time

I would say that if you can't at least determine the stresses, you should find a competent PE to design this for you before you kill someone with you "design".
This or any forum is not for DIY design of equipment that may put people at risk.

Ok, to clearify so someone else can chime in....

So... you are putting three 1 X 2" aluminum tubes side by side for 12 feet? ..one set under each run of wheels... and I assume you are going to assemble them 3" side vertical. What kind of aluminum and at what T heat treat?

So.. you are loading a quad, huh? Are you adding the weight of the driver in, yet? .. and the tools, guns, ice chest.... ???

..or maybe it is a little racer... ?? we like to know those things for fun...... or do you have to kill us if you tell us.

We'll see but I'm fairly sure you are going to want 1 x 3's.

Hello , thanks for the reply , this is for a UTV , 6063 T-1 .
The total weight is high, and the ramp will most often be used at a 31 degree angle . Thanks
