In instances where a coil spring is mounted in a curved position and loaded vertically, what direction would the reaction forces be in? I'm specifically dealing with an air bag suspension on a pickup truck. In the rear the bags ride between mounts on the frame and control arms that connect the rearend to the frame. So imagine a scissor-like action with a spring between the blades. I'm trying to figure out at what angle to mount gusset plates for the spring mounts...vertical like load (weight), perpendicular to plate that top of spring presses against?
