Color Control and Measuring Instruments
Electronics, Instrumentation & Electrical Database
Color control and measuring instruments in engineering is done with one or more technologies or devices. Technologies and devices available are colorimeters to measure relative color, a spectrophotometer for precise color measuring, and densitometer are used to measure relative light and dark.
The process of measuring color, depending on the method employed, may be called one of the following; colorimetry, spectrophotometry, spectral power distributions, or spectral reflectance
About devices and technologies;
Colorimeters are devices which can identify or characterize colors by measuring relative light frequencies.
Spectrophotometers are instruments which can take measurements within the visible region of light and is considered the most accurate detectors/technologies currently available.
Densitometers are used to measure the relative degree of darkness within selected materials . There are two general types of densitometers, reflection and transmission. Reflection densitometry are used measure light which has been reflected from a surface. Transmission densitonmeters are used measure the transparency of materials
