Separator-less HEPA Filter Design
A separator-less HEPA filter design, shown below, is constructed without corrugated spacers inserted between the folds of the filter paper. Instead, a continuous sheet of filter paper is molded on the papermaking machine with corrugations at intervals. When it is folded back and forth upon itself, it becomes a self-supporting pack where the peaks of the interval corrugations of successive layers contact each other to form a honeycomb-like filter pack. For the same filter frame size, a separator-less filter contains more useful filter paper surface than the corrugated separator type, and thus provides greater airflow capacity at equal resistance.
