Do you have access to FEA software? This is a complex section and the manual calculations are very complex and time consuming..
Hi All,
This is my first post here !
I have got a problem at work for which I would like your input to solve.
As seen on the attached picture I want to decide if the 12mm fish plate attached is going to be sufficient to handle the stress or will I need to add ribs to stiffen it better.
How do I calculate the bending moment & reactions at point A and B.
All dimensions are in mm.
Please let me know if I need to provide additional information.
Thanks in advance, look forward to your reply
Vin

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.
Vin, since your 12mm plates are as thick or a bit thicker than the Z & C channels, my thought would be that bending of the flanges of the Z & C channels may be the controlling factor in the deflection.
In which case, you will likely want FEA, as Kelly suggests.
Also, are you (can you?) assume that what is between the Z channels & the 14kN load is rigid? Is there a weight acting downward in your diagram, that would add give combined stresses?
